Welcome
Welcome to Metamorphosis Academy of Dance (formally Jill Wigham School of Dance), we hope you will find everything you need here whether you are looking to join the school or are an existing pupil. Term dates can be found under the 'Dates and Info' section on the left hand side, and recent news and information regarding our shows and summer school etc can be found in the 'News and Events' section.
**Metamorphosis Academy of Dance is registered for the governments 'Give it a go' scheme.**
The schools were established in 1979 (JWSD) by Jill Wigham, and 1989 (TBC) by Gay Maynard. In 2005 Megan Lewis took over The Ballet Club, and in 2007 Jill Wigham School of Dance. These two schools merged, along with Gay Maynard School of Dance and are now under the direction of Megan Lewis. In January 2011 the school had a relaunch and is now called the Metamorphosis Academy of Dance. Both Jill and Gay continue to teach for the school along with Amy, Bee and Megan.
Metamorphosis Academy of Dance offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and Street both for recreational and examination purposes using the syllabi of the Royal Academy of Dance, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and also non-syllabus classes. We also offer adult classes in various genres. We have a variety of performance opportunities too, we have a bi-annual show, cabarets and our children are involved in the Merlin Theatres Christmas pantomimes.
The syllabi of both the R.A.D and the I.S.T.D are designed to strengthen technique and performance. The examination system provides a goal to work towards, which gives pupils a sense of achievement. However examinations are not compulsory and providing the correct standard has been achieved children can move up with their peers with out taking the examinations.
Both the R.A.D (www.royalacademyofdancing.co.uk) and the I.S.T.D (www.istd.org) are internationally recognised, and uphold a high standard. All examinations entered at the schools are also recognised by the qualification and curriculum authority and fit into the national qualification framework. The 'Major' examinations are on a level with G.C.S.E. & `A' Level examinations.
